Take the Court with our Player of the Week: Brianna M.

This week, we’re turning the spotlight on Brianna M., a standout from 17 Platinum, whose volleyball journey is grounded in passion, perseverance, and a mindset built for growth. From backyard sand courts to competitive tournaments, Brianna’s story is about more than just playing—it’s about building community, handling challenges with grace, and continuing to push herself no matter the obstacle.

Getting Started: Inspired by Family, Driven by Passion

For Brianna, the spark for volleyball started at home, watching her mom play sand volleyball for fun. It wasn’t about competition back then—it was about joy and connection.

“My mom used to play sand ball for fun. I thought it seemed so fun, so as soon as I had the chance, I joined my high school team.”

Once she got a taste of the sport, she was hooked. That early inspiration turned into a full-blown love for the game, and her journey led her straight to Prevail—a place that matched her passion and challenged her to grow.

“I fell in love with the sport and continued to make connections, bringing me to Prevail.”

Why Prevail?

What sets Prevail apart for Brianna is the feeling—the kind of place where coaches care deeply, teammates feel like family, and everyone is working hard toward a common goal.

“I love how close everybody is at Prevail and the effort that coaches put into their teams.”

That trust and closeness have helped her become not only a better athlete, but also a more confident and motivated person. It’s where she’s felt seen, supported, and challenged to rise.

Advice for New Athletes: Keep Showing Up

If there’s one thing Brianna would tell younger players starting out, it’s this:

“Keep putting in the work, because effort will show.”

She knows that growth doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen. Staying locked in, being coachable, and choosing to love the process are the things that make a difference.

“Keeping your head in the game and staying dedicated to the sport will help you grow immensely.”

One thing she wishes she knew earlier?

“I wish I knew about club and outdoor opportunities. The more variety of environments you play in, the more you will improve your skill level.”

The Mental Game: Brush It Off, Move On

Volleyball is more than just physical—it’s a test of mental strength. Brianna has learned that letting go of mistakes is just as important as celebrating big wins.

“The most important thing I’ve learned is that it’s a mental game. When you make mistakes, brush it off, and continue onto the next play. A fresh brain is a fresh start!”

Instead of dwelling on errors, she uses them to fuel her growth—and encourages others to do the same.

“Use setbacks and challenges as learning experiences, not your weakness. When you find something you need improvement on, work on it. Don’t give up.”

Staying Motivated: People Who Lift You Up

When it comes to staying motivated, Brianna believes in surrounding herself with people who uplift, encourage, and hold her accountable. But she also recognizes the importance of becoming your own cheerleader.

“Surrounding yourself with people who lift you up—and being able to do it yourself—is key to staying positive.”

She knows that the right mindset, combined with a supportive circle, is what allows athletes to rise—and she’s determined to keep pushing, for herself and for her team.

Whether she’s delivering steady serves, encouraging a teammate, or bouncing back after a tough play, Brianna leads with positivity and purpose. Her journey reminds us that growth takes time, that setbacks don’t define us, and that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
