Season Recap: 16s Age Group

The 2024–2025 season was full of breakthroughs for our five 16s teams. From powerful playoff comebacks to learning how to lead on and off the court, each team in this age group faced their own version of growth. Some battled back from deep deficits. Others discovered how to play for each other instead of themselves. Every single one of them left this season better—and hungrier—than where they started.

Boys 16 Platinum – Smart, Competitive, and Unshakable

Coach: Brie
This team didn’t just grow—they elevated their entire identity. Under Coach Brie’s leadership, the Platinum boys became more intentional, more disciplined, and more vocal. The goal wasn’t just to win—it was to play smarter volleyball and hold each other accountable in the process.

What They Focused On

The team worked on raising their volleyball IQ, with an emphasis on setter decision-making, back row defense, and fast, effective communication. They watched film, asked questions, and started taking ownership of their execution on and off the court.

Standout Moment

At The St. James Invitational, the boys found themselves down 2–10 in the third set of their first playoff match. But instead of folding, they locked in—and came storming back to take the match. That momentum carried them through to win the entire tournament. It wasn’t a medal that defined them—it was the fight.

Coach’s Message:
“You’re not just playing volleyball—you’re learning how to show up, stay grounded, and lead by example. That’s the real win.”

Boys 16 Purple – Season Recap Pending

Coach: Bobby
While Coach Bobby did not submit a formal season recap, his team showed consistent effort and steady presence at every event. Boys 16 Purple represented the club well throughout the season and competed with heart in a tough field.

This group pushed each other to grow, showed up with intensity, and demonstrated the kind of commitment we expect at Prevail. Their growth may not be detailed here yet—but it was seen and felt throughout the year.

Girls 16 Platinum – Confident, Competitive, and Clutch

Coach: Derek
Coach Derek described this season as “filled with great wins and a couple heartbreaking losses,” but through it all, his team showed undeniable teamwork, determination, and growth.

What They Focused On

The team set out to grow both individually and collectively. From confidence in serve receive to vocal leadership in matches, the athletes pushed themselves to find new gears and compete at a higher level.

Standout Moment

At Rise to the Occasion, the team fell behind early—down 10 points in the first set of the gold semifinals. Rather than check out, they clawed back to win it 30–28, then never looked back—riding that momentum straight through to the championship.

Where They Grew

Confidence and leadership. These athletes learned how to trust each other and how to respond—not react—when things got tough.

Coach’s Message:
“Never stop believing in yourself. When things get hard, remember all the work you’ve put in to get to that point and push past the challenge. This is where growth comes from.”

Season Snapshot

  • 🥈 VB East (17s Division) – 2nd place (twice)

  • 🥈 Champions Cup – 2nd place

  • 🥇 Rise to the Occasion – 1st place

  • 📍 AAU Nationals (Garnet Division): 6–5 record and division champions

Girls 16 Purple – Locked In and Leveling Up

Coach: Jayden
“Flourish” was the word Coach Jayden used to describe this team—and it couldn’t be more fitting. This group found its identity through building the mental side of the game.

What They Focused On

While physical skills were important, the main focus this year was on mental strength, confidence, and perseverance—the pieces of the game that are often overlooked but make the biggest difference.

Standout Moment

Their banner win at the JBJ Delaware First State Showdown was the moment it all came together. They played with swagger, grit, and belief—and it showed.

Where They Grew

Confidence and leadership took center stage. This was a team that could goof around, laugh, and still lock in when it mattered most.

Coach’s Message:
“Your only real competition in life is yourself.”

Season Snapshot

  • 🥇 Silver Bracket Champs – JBJ First State Showdown

  • 🥇 Bermudian Springs Tournament

  • 🥈 Conestoga Valley Open

  • 🥈 Prevail 16s Tournament

Girls 16 Pink – Fun, Fierce, and Full of Fight

Coach: Ben
Coach Ben called this season “fun and exciting”—but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t filled with big challenges and even bigger moments of growth.

What They Focused On

The goal was to compete and fight, no matter the score. The girls were reminded often that matches don’t end until the final point—and they took that mindset into every tournament.

Standout Moment

The final tournament of the season was the most rewarding. After trailing early, the girls fought back to win the bronze bracket—a perfect representation of the growth they’d shown all year long.

Where They Grew

Team chemistry. This group learned to encourage one another, pick each other up, and stay together in every tough moment.

Coach’s Message:
“No challenge in life is too great to fight and stand tall against.”

A Final Word on the 16s

From Platinum’s comeback fire to Purple’s mental growth and Pink’s relentless heart, this group of athletes put in the work and left with something more than medals. They left with lessons—about leadership, perseverance, confidence, and what it truly means to Prevail.
