Take the Court with our Player of the Week: Sam P.
This week’s Teammate Tuesday spotlight features Sam P. from 17 Pink—a player whose game is as unique as his energy. Inspired by anime, fueled by freedom, and driven by a love for the unpredictable, Sam approaches every moment on the court with an adventurous spirit and a big smile. Let’s dive into why Sam is our Player of the Week, and how his creative play and infectious enthusiasm make him an invaluable part of his team.
How It All Started: An Anime Spark
Sam’s journey into volleyball didn’t begin on a court—it started with a screen. The anime Haikyuu ignited his passion for the sport and gave him the spark to step into the game himself.
“I first got involved with volleyball because of Haikyuu.”
What began as a story he watched turned into a story he’s now living—filled with big swings, epic digs, and an endless love for the game.
Why Prevail? Freedom to Play, Freedom to Be
When asked what he loves most about Prevail, Sam sums it up in a single word—“freedommmm.”
“I love the freedom—freedom to be myself, try new things, and have fun while competing.”
At Prevail, he’s found a place where he can express his personality, experiment with his game, and push the boundaries of what’s possible—all while being fully supported by his team.
Action Moment: The Fake-Out That Left the Defense Stunned
One of Sam’s favorite plays? A moment of pure creativity and control—a fake swing that turned into a perfect set.
“The fake swing into set—definitely one of my highlights.”
It’s the kind of play that takes confidence, quick thinking, and a willingness to try something unexpected—three things Sam always brings to the game.
Highlight Play: One-Armed Dig on a Power Hitter
Sam’s proudest moment recently? A one-armed dig against Wyatt Z. from 16 Platinum—a play that showcased both his quick reflexes and his refusal to let any ball drop without a fight.
“One-armed dig on Wyatt Z. from 16 Platinum.”
It’s not just about highlight reels—it’s about showing that no ball is truly out of reach when you’re willing to go all in.
Mental Prep: Rock On, Have Fun
Sam doesn’t let intense moments get the best of him—he embraces them.
“I rock on. Sam has fun.”
For him, the best way to stay focused and ready is to keep the joy alive, no matter how tight the score.
Big Plays, Big Reactions
When Sam pulls off a big play, his brain doesn’t think in words—it shouts in pure adrenaline.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!”
(Literally, it does.)
That raw energy is what makes Sam such a dynamic presence on the court—he doesn’t hold back, and his team can always feel that intensity.
In the Spotlight: Fun Above All
For Sam, the spotlight isn’t pressure—it’s a chance to do what he loves most.
“It feels fun.”
He knows that when you’re having fun, everything else—the big hits, the big blocks, the wild digs—falls right into place.
What’s Next for Sam?
Sam’s love for the game, his fearless creativity, and his “just go for it” mentality make him a powerful player for 17 Pink. As he keeps finding new ways to surprise defenses and lift his team’s spirits, there’s no doubt he’ll continue to be a player to watch.
