Wisdom Wednesday: Building Trust with Coach Tyler

This week’s Wisdom Wednesday features Coach Tyler, Head Coach of 17 Platinum, with a focus on one of the most powerful foundations a team can have: trust.

From how a team communicates to how it performs under pressure, trust is what holds it all together. For Coach Tyler, building that trust means building a team where no one plays alone.

Trust Means Fearless Volleyball
Coach Tyler describes trust as something that removes fear from the court.

“When you trust your teammates, your coaches, and yourself, you don’t play scared,” he says. “You know the people around you are there to support you—no matter the score.”

Whether the team is rallying after a tough run or celebrating a big win, the strongest teams know they can rely on each other every single point.

Trust gives players the freedom to go all in, knowing someone has their back.

Building Trust Through Communication
According to Coach Tyler, trust doesn’t just happen—it’s something players have to build together.

And it starts with one simple habit: always talk.

“Trust grows when teammates communicate constantly,” he explains. “That means staying after practice to review plays, talking between points, and having conversations off the court about how to get better.”

These moments—small and consistent—help players stay on the same page and build the confidence needed to rely on one another in every match.

When communication becomes the norm, so does trust.

Trust in Action
One of the clearest examples of trust Coach Tyler sees on the court is in the connection between passers, setters, and hitters.

“You can’t run a strong offense without trust between all three,” he says. “When the passers trust the setter to handle a great ball, and the setter trusts the hitter to finish the play, everything comes together.”

That kind of connection doesn’t just build efficiency—it builds confidence.

And when trust is high, teams play faster, communicate better, and celebrate harder.

Join us in celebrating Coach Tyler and his commitment to building teams that trust each other deeply—because trust is what turns a group of athletes into a unified, powerful team.
