Season Recap: 17s Age Group

The 2024–2025 season was a powerful journey of growth, teamwork, and determination for our five 17s teams. Each team faced challenges unique to their group, and each rose to meet them in their own way—carrying forward the spirit of Prevail.

Boys 17 Platinum – Built on Energy and Teamwork

Coach: Tyler
For Coach Tyler, the word that summed up the season was clear:
“Growth.”

The Goal: From Individuals to One Team

The focus this year was simple but critical—play as a team, not as individuals. Coach Tyler saw this team take that message to heart, especially during pre-tournament team talks that set the tone for every weekend.

When the Growth Shone Brightest

While it took some time to fully click, this team’s most significant leap forward came towards the end of the season. That’s when the mindset shifted from personal stats to shared success—and it showed in how they played.

The Practice Vibe

High energy was the calling card at every practice. From warmups to final drills, this team brought the fire and focus that set the tone for their final tournaments.

Coach Tyler’s Message:
“Play for the team, not for yourself.” It’s a lesson that transcends volleyball, and one that will serve these athletes in everything they do.

Season Highlight

  • 2nd place at the Volleyball East event—proof of how far they came together.

Boys 17 Pink – Learning, Humility, and a Team That Stepped Up

Coach: Alicia

For Coach Alicia, this season was summed up in one phrase:
“A learning experience for all.”

The Goal: Stay Humble and Play as One

This team had a mix of skill levels, but that didn’t stop them from finding common ground. From day one, Coach Alicia challenged them to stay humble and always help out their teammates—especially in tough situations when she wasn’t able to coach directly on the court.

Standout Moment

Winning the bronze bracket at the Rust Bucket was more than just a medal. It was a moment that proved how far they’d come and how much they could achieve when they leaned on each other.

Where They Grew Most

Growth was everywhere—from learning new positions and executing plays to adjusting attitudes and helping each other grow. Coach Alicia loved seeing players step into roles they’d never played before and absolutely crush it.

Coach Alicia’s Message:
“Stay humble! You never know who you’re playing with. You might just be the best player your teammate ever gets to play alongside.”

Season Snapshot

  • 3 wins

  • 2 silver medals (2nd place)

  • 1 bronze bracket champion medal

Under Coach Clark’s steady hand, 17 Purple built a foundation of trust and consistency. They may not have had a formal reflection, but their performances spoke for themselves—showing that leadership isn’t always loud, but it’s always felt.

Girls 17 Platinum – Strength in Spirit

Coach: Ed
Coach Ed’s group, Girls 17 Platinum, brought grit and determination to every tournament. Even without an official recap, it was clear this team played with purpose and pride all season long.

Team Vibe

They faced their share of challenges—injuries, roster changes, and tough brackets—but always found a way to compete. Their season was a testament to the strength of teamwork and the power of staying locked in, no matter the circumstances.

The Legacy of the 17s: Rising Together

Across all five teams, this season was a lesson in more than just volleyball. It was about:

Turning individuals into teammates
Competing with humility and respect
Finding joy in the grind and pride in the progress

For Coach Tyler’s Platinum boys, it was about channeling high-energy practices into real tournament results.
For Coach Alicia’s Pink team, it was about staying humble and helping each other shine.
For Coach Clark, Coach Ed, Coach Natasha, and Coach Kirsten, it was about building strong cultures of trust, character, and connection—no matter what the scoreboard said.

As these athletes step into their next seasons, they carry with them the lessons of growth, unity, and the true meaning of Prevail.
