Take the Court with our Player of the Week: Avery S.

This week, we’re highlighting Avery from Boys 16 Purple—a player whose love for the game comes from competition, teamwork, and pushing the limits of his abilities. Whether he’s experimenting with new attacks, motivating his teammates, or embracing the intensity of sixes, Avery thrives in high-energy environments. Let’s dive into why Avery is our Player of the Week and how his drive is making an impact on 16 Purple this season.

Finding Volleyball: A Late Start That Led to Big Things

Unlike many players who start young, Avery’s volleyball journey began his sophomore year when he decided to try out for his high school team. It was a bold step, but one that quickly turned into a passion.

“I tried out for my high school team sophomore year.”

That decision led him to Prevail Volleyball Club, where he’s grown as an athlete, a teammate, and a competitor.

Why Prevail? A Community That Builds Stronger Players

For Avery, volleyball is about the people as much as the game. The relationships he’s built at Prevail have made his experience even more rewarding.

“The community and the friends I've made.”

The balance of competitive intensity and team camaraderie keeps him motivated to work harder, improve, and push his limits every practice.

Sixes: The Drill That Pushes His Game Forward

When it comes to practice, six-on-six is where Avery thrives. The competitive aspect of the drill keeps the energy high and allows him to try things he might not normally attempt in a game setting.

“I love playing sixes.”

More than just a favorite drill, it’s helped him refine his versatility as an outside hitter, as he and his setter experiment with different plays.

“Sixes is where me and my setter try things that we wouldn't do in a normal game, like shoots and outside 2's. It helped me improve my versatility as an outside.”

By testing new strategies, he’s learning to adapt, read the game better, and develop a more dynamic offensive approach.

Power and Precision: A Love for Hitting

Avery’s favorite skill to practice? Hitting. It’s what excites him the most, and it’s the area of his game he’s constantly working to refine.

“Hitting.”

As an outside hitter, his ability to adjust to different sets, find open spaces, and deliver powerful attacks is a crucial part of what makes him such a valuable asset to 16 Purple.

Staying Motivated: Leading Through Encouragement

Long practices and tough drills can test even the best athletes, but Avery stays focused by motivating his teammates to get better.

“Motivating my teammates to get better.”

This team-first mindset not only elevates his own game but creates an environment where everyone around him is improving and pushing their limits.

What’s Next for Avery?

Avery’s competitiveness, willingness to experiment, and leadership through motivation make him a key player on Boys 16 Purple. As he continues to sharpen his skills and develop into an even more dynamic hitter, there’s no doubt he will be a major force for Prevail this season.
