Wisdom Wednesday: Celebrating Small Wins with Coach Monica

This week’s Wisdom Wednesday highlights Coach Monica, Head Coach of Boys 14 Platinum, and her belief that small wins aren’t small—they’re key to progress.

Why Celebrating Small Wins Matters
For Coach Monica, small victories are essential for long-term success.

“Small victories always mean improvement,” she explains. “Rather than labeling them as ‘small,’ we should see them as progression—applying what we’ve learned to what we are trying to accomplish.”

Every step forward, no matter how minor it may seem, is a building block toward bigger achievements. Whether it’s mastering a skill, executing a play correctly, or simply understanding the game better, each small win adds up.

By recognizing these moments, players stay motivated, engaged, and excited about their development.

A Small Win That Made a Big Difference
For Monica’s Boys 14U team, one of their biggest breakthroughs came from something fundamental: learning where to be on the court.

“At the start of the season, so much of our focus was on simply getting players into the right positions,” she recalls. “It may seem like a small thing, but for us, it was a huge progression.”

Once her players understood their roles and positioning, they were able to focus on playing the game rather than just figuring out where to stand. That one shift transformed their ability to move cohesively as a team, leading to more effective plays and better overall performance.

“What might seem like a ‘small win’ to others was a game-changer for us,” Monica says.

How Small Wins Build Motivation
Coach Monica views volleyball development as a series of building blocks—each skill and milestone contributing to the bigger picture.

“If you want to be a great volleyball player, you need a series of small successes along the way,” she explains. “You have to get your serve over the net before you can perfect placement. You have to be in the right blocking position before you can get a solid block. You have to set consistently before you can run a fast-paced offense.”

By celebrating each of these steps, players see their progress unfold and stay motivated to keep pushing forward.

“One point, one goal, one small win at a time—that’s what leads to success.”

The Power of Progress
Coach Monica ensures that her players recognize and appreciate their progress throughout the season.

“Success isn’t just about winning games—it’s about growth,” she says. “By acknowledging small wins, we build confidence, keep energy high, and remind our players that every step forward matters.”

Through her leadership, Monica is helping her players develop the right mindset—not just for volleyball, but for any challenge they face.

Join us in celebrating Coach Monica and her dedication to progress, motivation, and the power of small wins!
