Take the Court with our Player of the Week: Tanner G.

This week, we’re spotlighting Tanner from 17 Purple—a driven athlete whose passion for volleyball is matched only by his relentless work ethic and hunger for success. From pushing himself in practice to setting high expectations for the season, Tanner is all about competing, improving, and leading. Let’s dive into why Tanner is our Player of the Week and how he’s working to make his goals a reality.

From Fun to Fierce: How Tanner Found Volleyball

Tanner’s introduction to volleyball was simple—his friends told him it was fun, so he gave it a shot. But what started as a casual game quickly turned into something more. He didn’t just enjoy it—he thrived in the competition, the skill-building, and the fast-paced environment.

“My friends told me that it was fun, so I started playing.”

Now, volleyball is more than just a sport to Tanner—it’s a passion, a challenge, and a platform for him to push himself to new heights.

The Competitive Edge: Why Tanner Loves Prevail

For Tanner, Prevail isn’t just a club—it’s a training ground for excellence. He thrives in the competitive atmosphere, where every game, drill, and tournament is an opportunity to grow.

“My favorite aspect of the Prevail Family is the competitiveness. Every practice, tournament, and game between us is used to improve our skills. The rivalries created allow for fast improvement.”

At Prevail, the challenge never stops, and Tanner wouldn’t have it any other way.

Big Goals, Bigger Dreams

This season, Tanner has set his sights on three major goals:

1️⃣ Become team captain
2️⃣ Lead his team to Nationals
3️⃣ Win as many tournaments as possible

“My main goals for the season are to become team captain, lead my team to nationals, and win the most amount of tournaments.”

These aren’t just dreams—they’re objectives, and he’s putting in the work every day to make them happen.

The Plan for Success

To achieve his goals, Tanner knows it’s all about effort, consistency, and team improvement. His strategy? Outwork, outsmart, and outplay.

“I plan on working hard in practice to make my team better. This will help us win as much as possible. We will focus on consistency.”

By pushing himself, he pushes his team. He understands that success doesn’t come from individual greatness, but from building up those around him.

Personal Development: A Leader in the Making

Tanner isn’t just focused on team goals—he’s also honing his own skills, preparing himself for the next level.

“I want to make sure I am consistent and intentional. These will both gain attention from college coaches and boost my opportunities for higher-level teams.”

Intentionality in every rep. Consistency in every game. These qualities don’t just make Tanner a better player—they make him a leader.

Helping the Team Grow

Tanner knows that his development isn’t just about him—it’s about elevating the entire team. His approach focuses on making sure that setters, hitters, and every teammate grow together.

“These will help make sure that my setters can learn, and my hitters can grow. This will also help us try new things.”

By setting the standard, he’s ensuring that everyone levels up.

The Ultimate Goal: Nationals

For Tanner, this season will be measured by one defining momentmaking it to Nationals in the Open Division.

“Going to Nationals for Open Division.”

It’s the kind of challenge that fuels him, and if Tanner has anything to say about it, 17 Purple will be competing on the biggest stage.
