Take the Court with our Player of the Week: Meera G.
Building the Foundation: How Meera Found Her Love for Volleyball
Meera’s volleyball story started at home, not as a player, but as a helping hand. Her older brother needed someone to shag balls while he practiced, and in the process, she learned the fundamentals of setting to help him train. Little did she know, this early exposure would spark her own love for the game.
“My brother played and needed someone to shag balls. Eventually, I learned to set so that he could practice hitting.”
What began as a sibling assist turned into a passion, leading Meera to develop into a strong setter and server with a keen understanding of the game.
A Home at Prevail: Learning, Growing, and Competing
For Meera, Prevail Volleyball Club isn’t just a place to play—it’s a community where she feels supported and pushed to reach her full potential.
“I like that the coaches are approachable and really willing to work with me.”
The guidance from her coaches has been a key part of her development, helping her refine her skills while growing in confidence.
Strengths on the Court: Serving and Setting
Meera’s strongest assets as a player are her serving and setting, both of which she’s honed through years of hard work. Developing these skills hasn’t happened overnight—she’s made volleyball a part of her daily routine in creative ways.
Her dedication extends beyond structured practices. Watching high school and college games, playing grass volleyball, competing in her middle school season, and attending camps have all contributed to her steady improvement.“This is my fourth year at Prevail working on my skills with coaches. I also have a net in my front yard and a pop-up net when I travel, so I get touches most days year-round.”
Attitude and Experience: The Keys to Team Success
Meera sees her attitude and experience as her biggest assets to the team. She knows that success isn’t just about skill—it’s about mindset, leadership, and being someone her teammates can rely on.
“I remind myself that I am doing this for the glory of God. I also love playing and winning!”
Her ability to stay positive, lift up her teammates, and remain focused on her goals makes her an invaluable part of 14 Platinum.
Areas of Growth: Expanding Her Game
Even with her established strengths, Meera is always looking to improve. Right now, her focus is on becoming a stronger defensive player and improving her blocking ability.
By pushing herself outside of her comfort zone, Meera is developing into a more well-rounded player—one who can impact the game in every rotation.“I’m currently working on defense in general and blocking.”
What’s Next for Meera?
Meera’s love for volleyball, her work ethic, and her faith-driven approach to the game set her apart as a player and a teammate. As she continues to develop her skills and take on new challenges, there’s no doubt she will be a key contributor to Prevail’s success.
