#ShePrevails - Coach Edition: Celebrating the Legacy of National Women & Girls in Sports Day

Each year, National Women & Girls in Sports Day (NWGSD) reminds us of the power of female athletes—their resilience, determination, and undeniable impact on the sports world. But behind every strong female athlete is a coach who believes in them, pushes them, and helps them grow beyond the game.

At Prevail Volleyball Club, our coaches are more than instructors; they are mentors shaping the next generation of strong, confident women. We sat down with some of our dedicated coaches to hear their thoughts on the importance of girls in sports and how volleyball is changing lives.

Rylee B. - 16Pink: Empowering the Next Generation

For Coach Rylee, the importance of girls playing sports goes beyond the game itself—it’s about changing the narrative. She’s seen how men’s sports continue to dominate in viewership and pay, but she knows that times are changing. And she wants young girls to believe that they can be part of that change.

"It’s important to show the little girls of the world that they have the ability to do great things. Anything is possible as long as you try and put in the effort," she says.

Through volleyball, she has watched young girls find their confidence, their voices, and their drive. She has seen friendships form, perseverance develop, and personal growth take shape in ways far beyond the court.

Her biggest lesson for her athletes? “There is always room for improvement. No one is perfect. It’s okay to make a mistake, but what matters is learning from it and pushing yourself to be better.”

And while she loves seeing the transformation in her players, coaching has also changed her. “It’s widened my perspective on how one person can completely change someone’s view of a sport and of themselves. A coach has the power to build an athlete’s confidence, and that’s incredibly important, especially in younger ages.”

For Rylee, #ShePrevails represents power, strength, and confidence—three qualities she strives to instill in every player she coaches.

Haily R. - 12Pink: Teaching Confidence Through Volleyball

For Coach Haily, volleyball isn’t just a sport—it’s a life lesson wrapped in competition, teamwork, and perseverance.

"Playing sports helps girls in every aspect of life," she says. “They learn teamwork, how to push through adversity, how to communicate, and most importantly, how to believe in themselves.”

She has watched young athletes step onto the court unsure of themselves, only to grow into confident young women and leaders. The game pushes them to challenge their limits—not just physically, but mentally.

"Volleyball can change a young girl’s world. It teaches them confidence, helps them push past what they thought was impossible, and shows them what it means to work hard to achieve their goals."

And when mistakes happen? That’s when the biggest growth occurs.

"I hope my players learn that mistakes are okay. We all make them—it’s how we learn and improve. More than anything, I want them to trust in themselves and help others grow along the way."

Her definition of #ShePrevails is simple but powerful: “Push through and never give up in order to achieve your goals.”

Natasha B. - 17Purple: The Power of Perseverance

If there’s one thing Coach Natasha knows for sure, it’s that volleyball teaches life lessons that last far beyond the court.

"Sports teach girls how to be resilient, how to advocate for themselves, and how to be team players," she explains. “These are lessons they carry into every part of their lives.”

She’s seen firsthand how volleyball teaches young athletes to persevere when things get hard. How it teaches them to communicate positively, lift up those around them, and hold themselves and their teammates accountable.

"I want my players to understand that they can achieve anything with hard work and effort—but that doesn’t mean they have to do it alone. It’s okay to ask for help, to lean on teammates, and to admit when things are tough. Growth comes from struggle, but also from the people you surround yourself with."

For Natasha, #ShePrevails is about overcoming challenges and supporting others through them. It’s about female athletes pushing past obstacles together to become the best versions of themselves.

Brie K. - Boys 16Platinum & Girls 13Platinum: Building Leaders Through Volleyball

For Coach Brie, volleyball is so much more than a game—it’s a training ground for life.

"Sports teach young girls resilience, confidence, and the power of teamwork," she says. “It’s not just about winning—it’s about learning how to push past limits, lead with confidence, and realize that they belong in any space they step into.”

She has seen volleyball bring out a player’s true potential—not just in their skillset, but in their character.

"I’ve watched athletes come in timid and unsure, only to grow into confident competitors who take ownership of their game. It’s an incredible transformation to witness."

For Brie, the biggest lesson she wants her athletes to take away is that effort and attitude matter more than talent alone.

"Volleyball, like life, isn’t about perfection. It’s about how you respond when things don’t go your way. A tough loss, a hard practice, a moment of doubt—these are opportunities to learn. Grit, consistency, and a team-first mindset will always serve you well."

Her view of #ShePrevails is a reflection of what she teaches every day:

"It’s more than a hashtag—it’s a mindset. It’s about young female athletes embracing the grind, breaking barriers, and proving to themselves that they’re capable of more than they ever imagined."
