Take the Court with our Player of the Week: Sonoma S.
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Sonoma from 15 Purple—a player who embodies the hustle, teamwork, and passion that make Prevail Volleyball Club such a special place. From her favorite practice routines to her drive to improve, Sonoma’s story reminds us that every player brings something unique to the court. Let’s dive into why Sonoma is our Player of the Week and what makes her a standout in the Prevail family.
Meet Sonoma: From Recreational League to Competitive Volleyball
Sonoma’s volleyball journey began with the Summer Rheems Recreational League, where she first experienced the thrill of the game. The welcoming environment and opportunities for growth drew her in, but it’s the connections she’s made that keep her coming back. As a member of Prevail Volleyball Club, Sonoma has embraced the culture and opportunities that have helped her flourish.“My favorite things about Prevail are the club culture, wide range of opportunities, and countless friendships I’ve made.”
Whether it’s building lifelong friendships or taking on new challenges, Sonoma exemplifies what it means to thrive in a supportive and empowering environment.
Favorite Drills: Hustle and Teamwork in Action
Sonoma’s go-to practice routine is playing doubles or triples, drills that mimic the fast-paced and strategic nature of outdoor volleyball. These sessions are more than just practice—they’re a way for Sonoma to channel her love for teamwork while sharpening her communication and hustle.
By focusing on these drills, Sonoma has not only improved her skills but also strengthened her understanding of how collaboration and effort can make all the difference in high-pressure situations.“I love doubles and triples because they’re so similar to outdoor volleyball, and they promote teamwork.”
A Libero Who Loves to Hit
As a libero, Sonoma’s role typically focuses on defense and passing, but her favorite skill to practice is hitting. While she doesn’t often get the opportunity during matches, hitting in practice allows her to step outside her usual role and experience a different aspect of the game.
“I love to practice hitting because, as a libero, I never get to do that. It’s a fun change of pace!”
Her willingness to explore new skills demonstrates her dedication to growth and her passion for fully embracing every aspect of volleyball.
Staying Focused and Motivated
Like any athlete, long practices can be challenging, but Sonoma finds ways to stay energized and focused. Preparation plays a key role in her routine, and she balances it with a bit of humor to keep her mindset positive.
“I drink an energy drink beforehand and think about how good my bed will feel afterwards!”
This lighthearted approach shows that even in the grind of training, Sonoma maintains her love for the sport and a focus on her personal and team goals.
What’s Next for Sonoma?
Sonoma’s hustle, teamwork, and love for volleyball make her a standout player who sets an example for others. Whether she’s practicing her favorite skills, leading during doubles drills, or finding ways to keep her teammates motivated, Sonoma is always striving for excellence.
As the season progresses, we can’t wait to see how Sonoma’s hard work and enthusiasm translate into even more success for herself and her team.
